Ray's Response

Ray's Public Response to a Recent Criticism from the "Opposition"
Addressing the Recent Mailer Criticizing Ray for Water Rate Hikes
Ray Riehle for Congress

Published by Ray Riehle

Dear Friends and those who support my campaign for Congress,

Politics is often very strange. Yesterday I took a call from a good friend of mine who said he received a political card about me. He didn’t recognize the picture as those who sent the card used a real picture of me and failed to include the picture of my “stunt double”.

I’ve attached the card so you can all see what they wrote. It was immediately clear to me, when I stopped laughing, that I had arrived as a candidate because someone had put out an aggressively negative ad about me! It feels great! The only reason someone would do that is if my campaign was significant enough to make me a real threat to one of the other candidates.

My guess is they spent between $20,000 and $30,000 to mail the cards.  As my business is direct mail, I can speak with real authority on that point.  I must thank them for putting my name in front of probably 40,000 voters at no cost to me.  I’m confident that with the unflattering pictures, and the negative message, serious voters will know that I am the only serious Republican Candidate in CA 4.

If you’ve read this far, go a little farther and read the reason why I did in fact vote to increase water rates in Citrus Heights.  If you want to know more, leave a comment below and I’ll try to answer you.

I don’t know how much you want to hear about the process we use in Citrus Heights to set water rates.

As a Special District, we are about 97% dependent on our rate payers to cover all the costs of running the district.  That includes day to day operations and maintenance and long-term infrastructure projects.  We have between $750,000,000 and $1,000,000,000 worth of infrastructure that must be maintained for the next 100 years so that when people turn the tap, water comes on.  The CHWD has done a great job for years managing our infrastructure and we are not facing immediate problems.  Much of our district was built out in the 60’s – 80’s.  With a life expectancy of between 70 and 100 years for most pipe, we are facing a lot of Water Main replacements starting in 2030.  We have been working on this for years and I believe that modest rate increases now will set us up to provide safe, reliable, and affordable water for generations.
