Ray Riehle announces Ballot Statement

2/15/2024

From Ray Riehle in 2024, when running against Ami Bera:
My Voter Information Guide and Sample Ballot were delivered to me yesterday.  When I looked at it last night, I was amazed by what I saw.

Congressman Bera and I are the only candidates who paid the $18,000 to include a ballot statement.  This tells me the other 4 candidates are not serious about the campaign.

Voters deserve to know something about the candidates they have to choose from and a ballot statement is something that every voter should read. You can learn a lot about someone by what they say.

Congressman Bera writes that he is "most proud" of helping "tens of thousands of local taxpayers" to get 16.5 Million Dollars of their own money back in the last ten years.  For the sake of discussion, let's say he has helped 30,000 people over ten years. $16,500,000 divided by 30,000 is $550 per claim! After 10 years in Congress, I expect more!

He should have worked hard to drive down the cost of groceries, gas, housing and healthcare for everyone in the district!  That would be a worthy accomplishment.

Instead, he talks about helping struggling families. He is "dedicated to addressing these and many other needs".

If he hasn't helped us in the last 10 years, why would we expect him to help us in the next 2 years?

His time is up! Retire Bera and give me a chance to lower the cost of groceries, gas, housing, and healthcare.

On March 5th, Vote for someone who Really Cares about your bottom line!

-Ray

How NOT to add to a historic building

5/9/2022

Here is a prime example of government waste, and off-base policy proposed at the Capitol site.

Take a look at these images of the proposed Capitol Annex replacement buildings.  Much larger, with a glass exterior, overpowering the historic 1860's Capitol, and diminishing the view of the architectural front - all approaches that the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties states are NOT RECOMMENDED.

A commitment to follow The Standards was made in the project's Environmental Impact Report.  Judge for yourself how well the Joint Rules Committee is following the Standards.

THE SECRETARY OF THE INTERIOR'S STANDARDS FOR THE TREATMENT OF HISTORICAL PROPERTIES

NEW EXTERIOR ADDITIONS TO HISTORIC BUILDINGS AND RELATED NEW CONSTRUCTION
These are "NOT RECOMMENDED"
  • Expanding the size of the historic building by constructing a new addition when requirements for the new use could be met by altering non-character-defining interior spaces.
  • Constructing a new addition on or adjacent to a primary elevation of the building which negatively impacts the building's historic character.
  • Attaching a new addition in a manner that obscures, damages, or destroys character-defining features of the historic building.
  • Adding a new building to a historic site or property when the project requirements could be accommodated within the existing structure or structures.
  • Placing new construction too close to the historic building so that it negatively impacts the building's character, the site, or setting.
  • Constructing a new addition that is large as or larger than the historic building, which visually overwhelms it (i.e.; results in the diminution of loss of its historic character).
  • Adding new construction that results in the diminution or loss of the historic character of the building, including its design, materials, location, or setting.
  • Constructing a new building on a historic property or on an adjacent site that is much larger than the historic building.

Ukrainian American House

In light of recent developments on the world stage in Ukraine, I'd like to endorse this site to help raise funds for the people of Ukraine in their time of need.

A local charity, Ukrainian American House, seems like a great opportunity for people of our community to chip in and help with a locally formed group from Sacramento.

You can find them here at their website: Ukrainian American House | Nonprofit | United States (uahouse.org)
